What Still Flows
Geologies series | Joice Gabriela | 2026

Part of the Geologies series, What Still Flows evokes an encounter between the rocky landscapes of Goiás, Brazil, and the canyons of the American Southwest. Its cavities and irregular surfaces recall Vale da Lua and the natural rock basins of Pothole Point in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, while the silver-blue passage between earth-toned banks suggests the presence of water in the desert, as in Black Canyon along the Colorado River.

These echoes converge in an imagined landscape marked by erosion and animated by movement. Among earth-toned reliefs and golden reflections, small cavities hold water and light. In the pools, water remains; through the central channel, it flows onward.

The composition brings together the roughness of rock and the fluidity of water to explore erosion, resilience, and continuity. The work reflects on the traces left by time and on life continuing to find a way through, despite everything.
